SCHOLASTIC
RECORD - 15%
A candidate's
scholastic record is reviewed carefully. Points of
consideration include over-all scholastic average, nature of
classes taken, class rank, and significant test scores. Of
specific interest are academic achievements and/ or related
honors. Classroom attitudes and general scholastic
attributes will also be evaluated.
SERVICE AND
ACHIEVEMENT -
15%
The
candidate's list of involvements and contributions to school
and community will be evaluated by a panel of judge's who
will look for the extent of involvement, significance of
contribution, devotion to cause, and general enthusiasm. The
extracurricular involvement may be in such areas as speech,
journalism, student government, peer- assistance or civic
activities such as 4-H, church involvement, and volunteer
work. Leadership qualities will be stressed in the review of
the resume.
PERSONAL
DEVELOPMENT - 15%
This refers to
all of the special skills and abilities, hobbies and
interests which candidates may have developed. In short,
anything which may have been pursued which has helped to
make the candidate a more well-rounded individual. Such
things include athletic abilities, studies in music or
dance, and special hobbies ranging from sewing to art work
to photography. This category seeks to recognize personal
development and encouragement of special interests.
PERSONALITY
PROJECTION AND POISE - 15%
Each candidate
will be required to wear a formal dress of her choosing. She
will be introduced both individually and as part of a small
group to a panel of judges who will score her on her choice
of attire and grooming, carriage and posture, personality
projection, poise and naturalness. Attire and grooming
should reflect a positive teen image.
General
Awareness - 15%
Each State
Candidate will take a written, multiple-choice test designed
to measure her awareness in a variety of areas such as
current events, teen issues, general knowledge and common
sense.
PERSONALITY
(JUDGE'S INTERVIEW) - 25%
Each candidate
will be interviewed by a panel of judges. Judges will be
looking for such qualities as clarity of expression and
verbal command, sincerity, perception, sense of values,
friendliness, courtesy and tactfulness, poise and
self-confidence, and most significantly, over-all ability in
human relations.
